GPTboard is an iOS keyboard and companion app developed by Charanpreet Singh ("we", "us"). It improves the text you type with features such as grammar correction, paraphrasing, replies, tone changes, translation and continuing your text, and it offers voice typing. These features are powered by OpenAI's models. This policy explains what information GPTboard handles, where it goes, what we keep and what we do not.
In short: the text and speech you choose to process are sent to OpenAI for processing and are not stored by us. We keep a random usage identifier together with usage counts and, if you subscribe, your Apple subscription status. We do not collect your name, email address, contacts or location.
GPTboard needs the keyboard's "Allow Full Access" permission to work. iOS requires it for a keyboard that connects to the internet. When you tap one of the GPTboard features (Improve, Paraphrase, Reply, Change Tone, Ask GPT, Continue Text or Translate), the keyboard reads the text in the field you are typing in and sends it, together with the feature you chose and your usage identifier, to our server. Our server forwards it to OpenAI and returns the result to the keyboard, which inserts it. If the field is empty, the keyboard uses the text currently on your clipboard instead, so that you can process text copied from elsewhere.
Nothing is sent while you simply type. The keyboard only reads the field or the clipboard at the moment you use a feature. Word suggestions and autocorrect in the keyboard's suggestion bar are produced on your device and never leave it.
Our server does not store the text it forwards or the text it returns. It records only the number of tokens (pieces of text) each request used, against your usage identifier, to apply the daily free limit.
Voice typing records your speech and turns it into text. Because iOS does not allow a keyboard to use the microphone, the recording is done by the GPTboard app. The first time, the app asks for microphone permission, and iOS will ask you to confirm.
The first time you open the app, it generates a random identifier (a UUID). It is stored in the app and in your iCloud key-value storage so that it stays the same across your devices and if you reinstall the app. It is sent with every request and is the only thing our server knows you by. We keep, against this identifier: the number of tokens you have used, your remaining daily free allowance and, if you subscribe, the subscription records described below. The identifier is not linked to your name, email address, Apple Account or device unless you include it when you contact us (see Support below).
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. When you subscribe or restore a purchase, the app sends your Apple transaction identifier and your usage identifier to our server, which verifies the subscription with Apple's App Store Server API and stores the subscription status, the transaction identifier and the signed transaction and renewal information Apple provides, so that the app can recognise your subscription on every device.
If you contact us through the app's "Contact support" option or by email, we receive your email address and whatever you write. The app pre-fills the email subject with your usage identifier so that we can look into limits or subscription problems; you may remove it. We use this information only to answer you.
Our server keeps ordinary technical logs (usage identifiers, request times, error messages) to keep the service running. The logs do not contain the text or audio you process.
We do not collect your name, email address (unless you write to us), phone number, contacts, photos, location, advertising identifiers or analytics about how you use the app. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics services. We do not read what you type outside the moments described above.
We do not sell or rent any information, and we do not use your text or speech to train models.
Our server and OpenAI's servers may be located outside your country, including in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction. By using GPTboard you consent to this transfer.
You can ask us to delete the records held against your usage identifier by emailing us with the identifier (it is pre-filled in the subject of a support email from the app). Deleting the app removes the identifier from your device; it remains in your iCloud key-value storage until you remove the app's iCloud data in iOS Settings.
All communication between the app, our server and OpenAI is encrypted in transit. We keep as little as possible and never store what you type or say. No method of electronic storage or transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
GPTboard is not directed at children under [13], and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the service and you want the related usage record deleted, contact us.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last Updated" date above. You are advised to review it periodically.
